First line of treatment for calf pain is to rest the muscles, and allow the acute inflammation to subside. Often this is the only step needed to relieve calf pain.
Apply ice pack if it is within the last 48 hours or apply heat if it is more than 48 hrs.
Stretch the muscles and tendons of the calf which can help with some causes of calf pain. Stretching out before exercising is also important which is often neglected.
